I liked this book and found it smart and reflective. I appreciated how the author was very real and humble about her place in these stories. I was most interested in her thinking about translation and language and less interested in the religious aspects (though the faith stuff was less bothersome).

SO good!!! I love the authors voice and how she shares experiences growing up bilingual. I love how she weaves her own story into the stories from her time at the border and her other work. Really great book

A spiritual and meditative book processing the author’s experiences accompanying asylum seekers, passion for translation work, bilingual upbringing and family history. Highly recommend for those who also accompany asylum seekers (many, many reflections really resonate with my experiences, questions, interrogations and hopes) and those who accompany those who accompany asylum seekers :P would love for it to be translated into Spanish someday.
Moderate: Classism, Deportation, Violence, Hate crime, Domestic abuse, Racism, Trafficking, Colonisation, Confinement, Gun violence, Kidnapping, Xenophobia, Transphobia, Homophobia, Murder, Police brutality, and Misogyny

Difficult to review. Honest and thought-provoking. Meandering at times, you could tell that the author had a lot that she felt she had to include whether it fit into what was around it or not.
