It’s a difficult book to review, what I will say is that my poor rating is not a reflection of events that have happened in the book. Rose has gone through some terrible ordeals and it is important that her story is known, my biggest concern with this book is the message it sends.
McGowan opens the book by comparing Hollywood culture to the cult she grew up in. It is an interesting analogy and she goes on to explain why and the importance of breaking free from the indoctrination. She claims her book is to enable free thought.
Unfortunately my biggest issue with this book is that I feel she talks about the indoctrination and dangers of Hollywood by spreading hate about males. I consider myself a feminist, but reading this felt like reading what is commonly misassociated with feminists which is the hate of males. Rose has gone through some terrible events, and it doesn’t surprise me that she has these thoughts at all and of course every opinion is valid. My concerns are that the messages that she is putting across can be potentially dangerous and harmful in themselves. The book spreads a lot of hate and anger, and sometimes I felt this hate was unjustified or misplaced.
We are all entitled to opinions of course, but attempting to forcibly shut down the indoctrination of Hollywood only to replace with an indoctrination of hate feels unhealthy in a novel.
I have a lot of respect for McGowan, I think she is incredibly strong and brave and the book in itself is well written, but I couldn’t help feel uncomfortable whilst reading some of the points presented.

Phenomenal writing Rose McGowan!
This is a story every Woman should read. Rose is insightful, honest, & courageous. A True Trailblazer who inspires other humans to Stand up for themselves. BE unapologetically who YOU ARE!
Rose referencing herself as a “Little Machine” makes me smile every time.
Feminism is for EVERYONE!

If you know me then you know that long before my obsession with Buffy, I was obsessed with Charmed. Recently, I decided to rewatch the OG show now that the reboot has been cancelled. While I don't often read memoir's (last one I read was Naya Rivera's) I decided to purchase Brave.
Overall I don't regret my purchase, I liked the book and the message. Rose has lived one hell of a life and Hollywood is one nasty place. However, the rants were a bit much which is why it took me some time to . Also, trying to sell me skin care and albums? I wasn't too keen on that.
