Man I don't even know what to say. Loved the book all the way through and then that busted ass ending which I had to take a star off for.
My heart is broken.
Slaughter miraculously pulled me out of a longgggg slump, but oh did she have a price to pay.
As painful as it was, I’d read this series all over again. I’d even had a warning, thanks to some disgruntled reader in the Barnes and Noble app; but I was misled and thought the horrible thing happened in book 4, which it technically did.
After that little hiccup, I thought we’d be in the clear. Ha! Slaughter doesn’t pull punches.
Poor Sara. Right as she was about to get her happy ending…
Lena—god, I have so many feelings towards her; pity, anger, and respect all wrestling in a nasty coil—created a mess that, as always, Jeffery had to clean up. I was surprised to see that she’s still in Ethan’s clutches. That was enough mess in and of itself.
I just finished reading the bonus chapter, and with the knowledge of the future, the scene was saturated in bittersweetness.
I’m gonna miss Jeffery Tolliver, and the woman Sara Linton was when she was with him—because, surely, after what she witnessed, she’ll be forever changed.
I guess it’s off to start the Will Trent series. Hopefully, it’s not as painful.
