Water themes are the main focus; running water and sounds of drips are ambienent noises as the reader follows the journey of Eurydice into the underworld. Would love to see this in production.

Returning for the first time since I died for the second (and last) time three years ago... better than I remembered. Breathtakingly visual and physical, I had forgotten how much is left up to the designers, the actors, direction, etc. A baffling text. Devastating in all its usual ways; they are in love with the idea of being in love, if not with each other, in love with the idea of life, having not lived it. But they try, stumble forward, not knowing they will not have the rest of their lives to do so. I miss the intensity of the production, the music, the stakes, the physicality, the flowing water. Even if I don't miss who I was when I did, it. Even three/ four years out, it's astonishing how perspective changes; I lived with Eurydice for so long, said the lines over and over again, twice a day, heard them in my sleep, and yet every word I read felt brand new. I love theater for that. Books, etc.

Essentials:
"Take care to change the light bulbs. Continue to give yourself to others because that's the ultimate satisfaction in life-- to love, accept, honor, and help others."

"Pretend that you understand her or she'll be embarrassed. // Yes-- pretend for a moment that you understand the language of stones. // Listen to her the way you would listen to your own daughter, if she died too young, and tried to speak to you across long distances."

"I was not lonely, only alone with myself, begging myself not to leave my own body but I WAS leaving. [...] How do you say goodbye to yourself?"

"This is what it is to love an artist: the moon is always rising above your house. The houses of your neighbors look dull and lacking in moonlight. But he is always going away from you. Inside his head, there is always something more beautiful."

"Orpheus said the mind is a slide ruler. It can fit around anything. Words can mean anything. Show me your body, he said. It only means one thing."

"Before I go down there, I won't practice my music. Some say practice. But practice is a word invented by cowards. The animals don't have a word for practice. A gazelle does not run for practice. A bird doesn't sing for practice. So I say: store it up. When songs are pressing against my throat, then, only then, I will go down and sing for the devils and they will cry through their parched throats. [...] I am going the way of death. [...] Wait for me."

"ORPHEUS LOOKS AT EURYDICE. EURYDICE LOOKS AT ORPHEUS. THE WORLD FALLS AWAY."

Quirky, but it made me cry. There's so much to think about and chew on after, lots of strange visuals and sound directions. I thought the relationship between Eurydice and her father was more moving than the scene portraying the main tragedy of the source material, which was also unusual.
