This book is full of heavy content, but it’s so inspiring. The author has been through so much over so many decades, and the way that she weaves her life experiences together with her hike to Everest base camp and following summit bid is just beautiful. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the audiobook, read by the author, because I think she brings the story to life with her narration. The first Peruvian woman to summit Everest has written a wonderful, honest book.

Silvia Vasquez-Lavado is such a vivid writer, I felt like I was right there with her - on Everest and in her childhood home. She’s so honest about the toll trauma takes, and her path to healing isn’t easy or tied up with a bow. I found it to be very moving. All the trigger warnings on this - physical and sexual abuse, alcoholism, etc.

One of the best memoirs I've ever read. Gorgeous writing and an important, though hard, story about sexual abuse and using mountain climbing to heal from trauma. Thank you, Silvia, for sharing your story.
