Tom is the most patient and understanding husband and has many talents. Another Goldy adventure.
Narrator was good listened at 2.15 speed

2. It’s okay. Pretty predictable.

Barbara Rosenblat always does a good job narrating.

This book was my train reading for a while, which I think made it seem to be going a little slowly, since I realized when I finished it that the events in the book took place over just a couple of weeks (less time than had elapsed since I started reading the book).

Goldy is having trouble. Her kitchen has been halfway deconstructed, a new caterer in town is undercutting her business quite dramatically, her best friend is spending lots of time with the IRS and very little time with her, she can't get hold of her assistant Julian, and her ex-husband is in jail. (Okay, so the ex-husband in jail is a good thing mostly, but he has time on his hands to cause problems.) And that's before she finds the dead body of her deadbeat kitchen contractor in the home of a friend and gets in a tussle with the local DA which results in her husband being suspended without pay. As always, it is the characters who make a cozy mystery and the recurring characters in this book are pretty lovable. I think Goldy gets a bit neurotic on Tom when he is trying to help, and I worry about the love life of both Arch and Julian, but otherwise this was a fun installment. The mystery was one I came up with a solution for pretty early on, but I didn't know whodunit, only why -- and the reason turned out in the long run to be an exaggerated sense of the importance of something, IMHO.

Some of my biggest questions, however, were not answered -- perhaps because they had nothing to do with the mystery itself. Things like "was this before or after HIPAA?" and "is it ethical for someone at the county morgue to tell a real estate agent the latest news about deaths in the area so they can ask the family about selling their home?" and "how was Rustine both in high school and allowed to model lingerie on a moment's notice without a parent's permission?" Oh well, guess these sorts of questions are an occupational hazard for me.

Another good cozy involving Goldy, the Caterer. I love how the writer includes some Colorado culture, which makes this a Colorado mystery rather than a cozy that can be placed pretty much anywhere.

Goldy once again discovers a dead body. However, when her detective husband shows up, the out-of-control DA has him removed and suspended. Ms. Davidson adds more possible suspects as the story moves on. Loved it.

Goldy Bear Schulz runs a small catering company in rural Colorado. Her husband, Tom, is a cop, and her son, Arch, is 14. Need I say more?

As this book opens, a new caterer has come to town and is intent on undercutting Goldy’s prices and thereby garnering jobs that once were hers. Her friend, Marla, is being audited by the IRS, and it’s another hectic late summer as the book opens. Goldy’s kitchen has been torn up by an unscrupulous contractor who has taken her money and run, leaving the place in utter chaos.

In desperation, Goldy agrees to help her mentor cater a photo shoot, and before it’s over, she has found the body of the contractor who stiffed her. In the heat of the action, when she is initially considered a suspect, her husband comes to her aid only to be suspended from the police force. It’s up to Goldy to figure out who offed the contractor. But before she does, her beloved chef mentor is found dead under suspicious circumstances.

This book runs slower than do most of the ones in the series. Still, it’s not so slow that you’ll get bored with it. The usual cast of colorful characters are all here, and I didn’t see the end coming.

Another great installment in this series. I love having Julian around -- think maybe he could make me like vegetables?? The Jerk continues to be a thorn in Goldy's side, but she was able to pull it out and stick it back in The Jerk, so that is good.

I just love these little novels -- great enjoyability!
