Certainly no “Cherry Beach”, but the author has an uncanny talent of making the painful human experience that most of us hide to get through the day open and vulnerable and real.

“She cant say exactly why she does this (drinks like a fish) but she supposes she rather likes oblivion, and the drink seems to dissolve the negative thoughts”.

I love everything Laura writes! this book is so honest and it made me think further upon motherhood and I think that’s important.

I've been in a huge reading/life slump for the start of the year, I've found it difficult to concentrate on reading anything, until I picked up this novel. The prose is sparce but impactful, a depiction of mental illness which is not typically expressed in novels about new mothers/pregnant people. It did not take me long to settle in and be hooked by the story, something that I have been able to do for some time.  I feel like it is important to note that although Coral is unsure there is still a hopefulness there. A raw and haunting lil slump buster.
