This is a fantastic entry into the Sun Eater series. I was captivated the entire time and didn’t have the pacing issues mid book like many people do. There are a few reasons that this is not getting a five star rating from me: there were just too many male gaze issues in the beginning, I think there were about a half dozen “this is the moment that changed my life” statements, and current day Hadrian waxes philosophical more often and longer than is my taste.
Again, a superb entry into the series, and I’ll be picking up book two very soon.

The last 25% of this book made it worthwhile. I understand that the first book of a series may sometimes have to lean in to world building and character development but this book felt like too much tell not enough show.
I will likely continue the series but hop3 it continues more like the end of this book, than the begining.

Was excited for this book but it just dragged on. A lot of emphasis on foreshadowing that you won’t get to for what seems like multiple books based on how the first book went. The side characters were almost better developed than the main character which was just odd. Didn’t find the main character that likable either. However I did find the political aspects of the book intriguing, so may go back to book 2 in the figure just to see if we get more excitement in other books
