“THIS NEEDS TO BE A MOVIE!!”
Is what I was thinking the WHOLE TIME!
It’d be amazing played out in real life..

I was soooo excited to read the Acknowledgments and find out that it WILL BE!

A very fun read! The pacing of the book was great. I had fun seeing how everything unfolded. Not an all-time-favorite, but genuinely think it accomplished what it set out to: a relatively low-stakes thriller/mystery with a fun cast of characters.

The only plot hole I couldn’t shake was this: wouldn’t a hotel of that size have security footage? And wouldn’t police want to review that footage (which is where they’d see Meddy and the aunties with the cooler, and also Meddy hiding the duffel bag in Maureen’s room?)

Anyway, I don’t care too much about that plot hole because I still had a good time reading. If Goodreads had half stars tho I might place this at a 4.5.

A little hard to bin- the colors and setting (hijinks ensue at a high profile wedding Meddy's family services, while she runs into an old college ex) would lead you to think this is romance, but there's also a dead body and criminal shenanigans afoot which feels a little more mystery, except we definitely saw who killed him and now we're just trying to mitigate the fall out... overall this was fun, though- just think how Crazy Rich Asians could've been if there was also a bit of Weekend at Bernie's (which I'll be honest, I've never seen though I know the general premise). It's a slightly different take on wealthy southeast Asian Chinese diaspora wedding craziness, though the last third goes completely off the rails as all various plots tie together.

I'll definitely read the next one when I next come across it at the library.

also yes I stuck my queerreads tag on here though again, it's a late in the game aspect so I wouldn't come here primarily for queer rep.

This was not what I expected but I truly enjoyed it. The story had good plot twists and lovable characters.

Meddelin (Meddy), her mom, and her aunties, who share a family business, are hired for a billionaire wedding. Things get messy when they find themselves dealing with an accidental murder and Meddy’s ex boyfriend.

Buddy read this with @moonlightpages a while ago and omg, this was next level messy 😂 I feel like some aunties can be kind of notorious for being loud gossips and Meddy’s aunts are no exception! Every scene was a chaotic mess and probably not legal. There was filial piety, tai chi, hiding a body, Indo-Chinese culture, complicated relationships, a mystery, and family drama. Despite the ridiculousness, this was such a fun book and I loved all the antics!
