DESTROYED ME

This book was good, yes, but it was not enough. I know I don't like this sort of book, and I have no idea why I'm still trying to read them, but it just doesn't work with me: two boys falling in love (accepting sexuality) but realizing they are not good for each other. I couldn't like Cameron or Nathan. It made me think too much of Oleander (although it was far better than Oleander), and I just hate Oleander and don't like these stories. They were good elements, of course (the aunt, the end), but I can't give it 5 stars.

Incredibly powerful-the tension made a knot in my stomach throughout the entire book, but I didn't want to put it down. These issues absolutely need to be seen in YA literature for young men-bisexuality, emotional abuse, sexual violence between young men, sexuality and religion, parents who cast out their LGBT children. I really cared about Nathan, Cam, Aria, Violet, and all the teen characters who were in involved in the crime that begins this book. I will definitely be reading more from Smedley--his writing completely transports you.

Zack Smedley has done it again—I’m absolutely shaken by Deposing Nathan! I could have powered through it in one go last night, but I made the wise choice to sleep, which meant I could fully immerse myself in it this morning. And wow, was that the right decision. This book is raw, gripping, and emotionally intense, tackling the complexities of religion and LGBTQ+ identity in a way that feels both deeply personal and universally important. The courtroom-style storytelling, the unraveling of truth, the way it explores love, loyalty, and self-acceptance—absolute chef’s kiss. A masterpiece through and through!
