I voted Tracy Flick as one of my all-time favorite characters during her Election debut. I should have predicted she’d become a school administrator who previously attended law school. Much like the voices in this book, an inner voice of dark humor and jaded point of view narrates my days, so I find Tracy Flick relatable and inspiring. I’m now looking forward to channeling my inner Tracy Flick while at school and watching the upcoming movie for further inspiration.

I feel conflicted on this book: I liked the story, I think it will be a great movie. However, I felt absolutely zero connection to the characters. Overall, the depiction of characters the felt shallow and two dimensional. I liked the way the author didn’t hold back in showing the reality of people’s thoughts and egos, it just felt like every character was kind of a bad person deep down. There was no one to root for which left this book lacking for me.

The full cast for the audiobook really amped up the experience. It was helpful too since there were many stories happening at once.
3.5 rounded up.
