I SURPRISINGLY LAUGHED SO MANY TIMES THROUGHOUT THIS BOOK. Great one-liners. Every characters' sense of humor is just stellar. I loved the friendships in this book. I loved Sideways' two dads. Loved the possession, the hexing of shitty men, the ending, the WEIRDNESS. I was slightly confused by the magic system, but that was probably just a me thing. This reminded me so much of Bunny by Mona Awad, and i was LIVING for it. I'm so glad I pushed past the first 30 pages that I was kind of struggling with because it was DEFINITELY worth it.

I can’t rate it because I couldn’t get into the writing. I’m sure there was a good story there, but the prose wasn’t for me.

Overall, outside of some writing and first book issues, this is an interesting beginning to a witchy series.

I received an ecopy of this book via Netgalley; however, my opinions are my own.

Honestly, the first half of the book was a little hard to get through. Clarke's prose is often a bit violent and visceral, which made it uncomfortable to read sometimes. I also wasn't fully sure what was going on, since some things happened very quickly (the friendship developing between the four) and other things took a while.

Once I got to the second half, it was a much easier and more enjoyable read. I'm interested in following the rest of the story. I'm especially interested in why Maurice doesn't trust Mr. Scratch.

I had expected this book to be a bit more Mean Girls/Heather's than it is, and I'm glad. I like that the girls don't tear others down just for the heck of it.
