“Perhaps one did not want to be loved so much as to be understood.”

Incredible book with an outstanding, yet dreadful last line.

An excerpt from the afterword that resonated with me:
“The hope can be realized only by recognizing, so 1984 teaches us, the danger with which all men are confronted today, the danger of a society of automatons who will have lost every trace of individuality, of love, of critical thought…”

The quote above reminds me of DC a little…

I’ve never listened to an audiobook like this before - it felt like listening to a film because of the music and acting which made it a lot easier to picture what was going on. 1984 is obviously a great story anyway and I know it well which helped but this version managed to be more humorous than I’ve ever found it and probably scarier too. I’m hoping to find more of these sorts of audiobooks to listen to now I have a free few months of using audible but I think it’ll be hard to top this one!
