“People say home is where the heart is, but I think maybe home is the heart.”
🦟
Mim Malone is not okay. She’s been taken from her home of Ohio to Mississippi with her dad and his new wife, leaving behind her mother who suddenly has stopped writing to Mim. After a big fight with her dad and stepmother, she decides to go to track down her mom. Boarding a Greyhound she fends off lecherous men, a sweet old lady, survives a bus crash and more quirky travelers along the way. As we follow Mim’s journey we also get to see flashbacks of what led her here.
🚍
I didn’t like Mim very much and yet I couldn’t stop reading this YA coming of age story. It was heartbreaking and weird and real and beautifully written. I could have stayed in this #novel for a long while.

CW: vomit (lots), sexual assault, paedophilia, homelessness, foster care, smoking, bus crash, blood, death, rape

It’s got its fair share of problematic language, political incorrectness, and generally cringey writing, but the lessons are there. They may not be anything new or groundbreaking, but they punch you in the gut all the same.

I must admit I didn't actually finish this book. After reading a couple chapters I decided to stop.
There was quite a bit of completely unnecessary profanity, which annoyed me. The main character was an angsty teen who spoke in metaphors {sounded more like an adult trying to sound like a teen}. She was quite strange, maybe she changed throughout the book?
The other characters were downright creepy, odd, or maybe normal but the main character didn't think so.
Couldn't finish it, definitely wasn't my cup of tea. If you don't mind swearing, the 'I'm a unique, quirky, and angsty teen' cliche, and plenty of metaphors you'll probably like it!

The main character Mim is crazy, but I like her anyway. She is witty, intelligent and adventurous. What I don't like is that she lies so much, but I forgive her. She goes on a journey where she finds herself. This book was a nice fast read and very fun.
