Late review but this was a fun trilogy over all, 3 stars rating, exactly average. When it comes to spooky books, middle grade can be so fun and i tend to prefer it even to adult and ya horror bc it has low stakes, no gore but still keeps the vibes (scooby doo : mysteries incorporated is one of my fav shows).
But when it comes to V. E. Schwabb, however, middle grade is NOT my go-to apparently. I also gave 3 stars to gallant. Honestly ive hated neither works, i just dont have strong feeling about them.
For a trilogy, the characters werent as attaching as they shouldve been, the plot was very repetitive, the lore was cool but nothing much, i liked that we had a new setting for every book but we didnt exploit them enough for my liking. The second book is still my fav though bc its set in Paris and i was in every place mentionned as i was reading.
The Harry Potter references were TOO MUCH, like seriously it was soooo overdone, im not a fan of modern pop culture references in media, especially mentionning Harry Potter in a middle grade feels like a cheap way of creating relatability and theres a big risk of it not aging well (

Przygoda z Cassidy, Jacobem i Larom dobiegła końca. Most dusz jest moją ulubiona książką z tej trylogii.

Okay, I still see how I thought this was going to be a longer series, but also not. Victoria, hit me up and let me know if you have more for Cass in mind please.
