Love Lord Peter Wimsey. Second time of reading and really found this fascinating as I am now currently living in the Fens - great snap shot of local rural history, and very scary devestating flood at the end. Sadly March's Angel roof barely mentioned other than as being inferior to the fictitious one in Fenchurch St Paul....
I picked up this book because a couple of my friends do change-ringing. I read a bit about the mathematics of it and saw references to this mystery novel. It was pretty good, with several nested puzzles that need solving by the irrepressible upper-class detective Lord Peter Wimsey. It also gives a lot of flavour of English country life in the 1920s/1930s.
And with this book I have officially reached the conclusion that Dorothy Sayers is not for me. She writes about things that feel obscure to me in a way that makes it seem everybody should just know what she’s talking about. (I can’t be the only one reading this book that hasn’t the first clue about bell ringing and can’t imagine I’m in the minority there.) Her formatting bothers me, and there’s not enough plot to make up for the lack of character development. I do still like several of the characters, and the ending did take me by surprise while not feeling contrived, so I give it three stars.

Enjoyed reading all these reviews from fellow sayers fans... The only thing i wanted to remark on was how little personality peter winsey seems to have in this book as compared to others. Not that he is insipid! But just not as erudite and... sparkly, i guess.

Another entertaining entry in the Wimsey series, complete with Bunter at last! (Maybe it hasn't been as long as it feels...)
