As a huge fan of Anne of Green Gables, I was both curious and a bit cautious about diving into Marilla of Green Gables. A story set in that world but written by someone else? I wasn't really sure what to think.

But honestly, I was hooked right from the first page! I've always been curious about Marilla Cuthbert—what made her the way she is and why she’s got that famous tough exterior. This book does a fantastic job of exploring her youth, giving us a glimpse into the choices and heartbreaks that shaped her into the strong woman we meet when Anne arrives at Green Gables.

It’s a quick, heartwarming read that's perfectly timed and incredibly satisfying. I definitely recommend it to anyone who loves Anne's world. This story really adds to it beautifully! As a devoted fan of Anne of Green Gables, I approached Marilla of Green Gables with equal parts curiosity and caution. A story set in the world of Green Gables—but written by someone other than L.M. Montgomery? I wasn't sure what to expect.

This book offers a thoughtful and tender portrait of Marlia & Matthew’s youth, shedding light on the choices, heartbreaks, and ideals that moulded them when we meet when Anne Shirley arrives at Green Gables.

It's a quick, heartwarming read—perfectly paced and deeply satisfying. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who's ever loved Anne's world. This is a story that enriches it beautifully.

A delightful look into Marilla's past and her journey before meeting her beloved Anne. I didn't know I needed this story until I read it, but what a beautiful imagining of such a beloved character.

This is a loving and poignant tribute to the Anne series' greatest woman: Marilla. She is strong, vulnerable, and flawed, with a deep sense of justice and mercy. I highly recommend this book.

This was….something. I’m not sure what I expected, but I don’t think this was it. And now that I’ve read it, I’m not sure I needed to, nor did it add much to what we already knew. I wanted a whole lot more from the disappointed romance I will say that.

Overall, meh.

3.5 if we're getting particular, but I rounded up because I just love Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert, particularly after watching Anne with an E. My 15 year old Anne-loving daughter is going to read it next and we will be sure to talk about not letting the expectations of others dictate the trajectory of our lives.
