Too many characters that were hard to keep track of; there wasn't enough time developing any of the characters to actually remember who they were. It's clear in this book that it could literally be any of them, so the ending didn't feel particularly satisfying.

This is another Poirot tale. That's it. Farewell.
Nah, I'm kidding ... or am I?
To be honest, if you are reading the 32 novel of Poirot you probably understand why I am saying what I am saying this. If you've read other Poirot novels then this is another like the previous. The only difference that I may point out is that Poirot for a lot of time was a bit mistaken and I bet that most people where thinking one killer (there was small hints) and then Christie went 180 degrees in another direction.
It's not her worst but it's another. Nothing spectacular - no fireworks. If you've read all her previous novels then you won't stop here. I wouldn't start here. One of the first with hastings are way better OR Murder or Roger Ackryod (by far her best work with Poirot - although crime in the orient express got more cover - probably due to the movie). Ackroyd is one movie/series that doesn't work unless it's book format.

Any book that has Adriane Oliver in it automatically earns some extra points, and I stand by that here. Her quips were one of the highlights of this book. Her little rant about Sven Hjerson was so clearly about Christie's feelings around Poirot, that it made me laugh.
The mystery itself was really clever - so many twists and turns. Towards the end, Poirot points out a clue he was stupid to miss; well, I missed it too! Didn't even cross my mind as odd. I found the solution quite satisfying, and I think Christie played fair in this one.
I did feel like the middle dragged a bit. I don't mind the slice of life aspects (like Poirot complaining about the conditions of the house he was staying at - though of course Christie managed to make that relevant!) but there were a few times where I was like 'okay I want to feel like we're making a bit more progress here.'
Still, a solid Christie, and not one I'd be shy to recommend if you want a Poirot book that heavily focuses on his perspective.
