#StoryGraph: fiction contemporary romance
345 pages | first published 2022

• Once Upon a Book Club #OUABC Up All Night Box 2022

• #OUABC 2023 Reading Challenge: 40 Prompts (1. A Once Upon a Book Club selection)

The first two books that I’ve read this year have been genres I don’t usually read — horror and contemporary romance. Yet 2023, so far, has been fun because I rated both of them five stars.

Blythe Harmon is on the fast track to a life she never wanted. On her thirtieth birthday, an unusual bequest from her beloved late grandmother, Nomi, offers an escape and an invitation to adventure.

She sets off for a small island where clue by cryptic clue, she begins to unravel the puzzle her grandmother left. And after an unexpected turn in her quest, she discovers that the treasure she's seeking is something that could never be buried.

Thoroughly enjoyable. I'd been in the mood for a fun read and had picked up Elin Hilderbrand's latest and found it too easy to put down and forget. Then I picked up One Italian Summer by Rebecca Serle and found the protagonist so lacking in self-awareness that I didn't want to spend time with her. But Improbably Yours was just right. Blythe is relatable. I enjoyed the elements of mystery, magic and the rapport with the dead. Even though the ending wasn't particularly surprising, it was very satisfying. Definitely an entertaining, enjoyable read, as are the other Kerry Anne King books I've read.

This is a simple romance with a great story line. Not a deep read but I liked the characters and the simplicity. Blythe does on a treasure hunt prepared by her late grandmother that encourages to be herself. She just so happens to fall in love during the trip and the never leaves.
