Second read. I will forever give this 5 stars

i think sarah kay is an exceptional performer when it comes to spoken poetry. however these poems failed to hold my attention. i just had to keep retracing my way back through the poems and thinking that each of them needed a full fledged performance from her to back it up or make any sort of impact.

My favourites are

The Shirt
Grace

The Type

3.5
Bit of an inconsistent love for this one. Some parts were SO good though and it’s worth reading for those moments.
If there is any music left, you can untie it from my throat.

2.5*
it was good, just not my kind of poetry, si es que tengo uno

From page one, Kay’s poetry resounds with a stunning sense of humanity that went straight to my heart. I had driven myself out into the woods in the search for solitude — and yet, here was this book, charged with heartache and spirit and and love, making me long for human connection.

The short version is that I absolutely adored this book, for the longer version on why, please check out my blog post, "The Resounding Humanity of Sarah Kay’s ‘No Matter the Wreckage’".

I never thought I would love a poetry book, but I LOVED this!

until i read sarah kay, i had no idea poetry could be both this beautiful and this accessible.

কিছু কবিতা বেশ ভালো লেগেছে। বেশিরভাগ কবিতার বই-ই তো এমনই হয়, গুটিকয়েকই ভালো কবিতা। গুটিকয়েকই গভীর।

I have been a fan of Sarah Kay since her Ted Talk. I recently went to a live reading she did in Seattle and was blown away. Her poetry is completely wonderful. Many of the poems in this collection were shared during her event, which made it easier to read this book in her voice. Her poems are at once personal and universal. I cannot praise this book enough.
