Brilliant and beautifully written. I liked it even better than The Master Butcher's Singing Club. To me, this book really seemed like a collection of short stories that fit perfectly together into a novel, but unlike Olive Kitteridge, it didn't feel at all like a gimmick. Definitely a book I will revisit.

Certain snippets of this book I really liked. For example, the Indigenous folks winding up the town priest was hilarious and brilliantly written.

Maybe it just wasn't the right time for this book but I found it difficult to keep track of the characters, timelines and connections between various characters and events.

Extraordinarily complex, beautiful, powerful. A little messier than my favorite of erdrich's books, but everything pulls surprisingly together in the end. An energetic and courageous reckoning.
