In this graphic novel, we follow Aria and her grandmother Jing Li. Aria is visiting her grandma for the summer and is excited to help run her cafe, which is guarded by her cat, Bao. Grandma Li has secrets though and she won't tell Aria what they are. She mysteriously closes the cafe at 6 p.m. every day and kicks all the customers out so that she can cook something secretly in the kitchen. Aria is determined to figure out what her grandma is doing. Will she be able to figure out her grandma's secret and help her? You'll have to read this and find out!
This was a super cute graphic novel! I really enjoyed the story. I've read a few books by this author and they never disappoint. This book was no different! I loved all of the little touches throughout the book - I thought the prairie dogs were so cute!

This is an excellent text to explore with kids for a variety of reasons--1. Simply to have a fun reading adventure 2. Enjoy plot twists! A little bit of magical realism! 3. Grapple with relevant issues kids are dealing with, specifically social media! Great for family reading or the classroom!

There's a mystery surrounding Aria's grandmother's Boba café and it's up to her to figure it out. This one was really fun, with an adventurous trip, cute kittens and prairie dogs, and even a fun explanation of why we have earthquakes in California. I also love that the author is also the artist. Great for middle grade or if you just want something quick and fun to read.

This graphic novel was cute, but there didn't seem to be a plot. I mean, it's kind of there, but something about the pacing was off. I also didn't care for any of the characters or whether the Super Boba Cafe was successful or not because the grandmother didn't seem to care either and it was HER store. No tension except between Aria and her grandmother and even that wasn't standout.
