Was I sobbing in the middle of the night when a favorite character died? Yes. Did I stay up way too late to finished it anyway? Yes. Is this one of my favorite recently finished books? Also yes.

Cardboard. I really wanted to like this book but it just never came alive for me. The characters seemed like cardboard cutouts. No fair comparing them to Gabaldon's Jamie & Claire - but they're no Jamie & Claire.

The Scottish brogue I found very tedious to read. Found myself skimming through a lot of it.

More of an adventure story than the first one, but pretty gripping. Great vacation read.

4.5 I love these books. They transport me to places and and I'm truly engaged with the characters. I especially love how she's written two characters, Curiosity Freeman and Hannah Bonner. The only reason this didn't get a full 5 was because sometimes I felt Donati was too ambitious with political shenanigans, e.g. ambushes on the high seas. Otherwise brillaint.

This is the second book in Donati's Wilderness series following the adventures of Elizabeth and Daniel. It was great to follow on with more adventures from these two, they are great characters. I also liked how we also got to get to know a few of the other characters especially Daniel's daughter Hannah in this book.
The adventure keeps coming at a cracking pace although the major plot direction is telegraphed in advance by the book title. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

This series is definitely well written and engrossing and the characters are interesting and...it also similar annoyances to the Outlander series that I read and loved. The books are too long. There are too many explicit sex scenes (as a reader, it just bores me after a while). Still it keeps reeling me back in like good series do.
