Slow burn with strong Lord of the Rings vibes.
I picked up this book because I was recommended the Witchwood Crown, the first in the following trilogy. I would have stopped reading this book early on if I had not read so many reviews urging people to stick with it, saying it got better. Unfortunately for me, it never got better. There are elements that could be very interesting if written differently. The writing style felt basic with little world-building or character development. I had no reason to care about the fate of the kingdom of Osten Ard, and none of the characters were fleshed out enough to be compelling. The book is too long to not be gripping.
Not really in the mood for high fantasy at the minute. May get into during winter
A nostalgia read. This was one of my favorite books as a child. Not as good as I remember it. But still satisfying.
