Světlo, stín, atmosféra, sny, útržky, vzpomínky. Jen ty lidi tam mě do jednoho hrozně štvali.
slow-paced
I really REALLY wanted to like this one, but I couldn’t. I found the main character so awful that this story (which is pretty short) just went on and on and onnnnnn annnndddd onnnnn.
Nothing remarkable really stood out for me. Sorry, friends.

I wasn’t really a big fan of this book. The whole time I felt like I was waiting for something to happen or it would start building up to something….but it never did. It started to drag about halfway through, and while I didn’t think the writing was bad or anything (though I can’t speak too heavily on it as it’s a translation), I felt like the plot (or lack thereof) really held it back. While I do think a book that isn’t plot-driven can be very good, I don’t think the characters were nearly fleshed out enough for this to be the case here.

so beautiful.... and quite unlike anything i've read, i picked it up on a whim after seeing someone's recommendation so i had no idea what to expect, i had barely skimmed the blurb before heading over to download it and getting started but not only did i find it a thoroughly enjoyable read (something i've been yearning for after the seemingly neverending series of rather underwhelming books i've encountered these last weeks-months) but also quite surprising. aside from the gorgeous prose and the way the narration kept slipping back and forth between dreams and reality in a dazzling and somehow simultaneously tranquil and unsettling way, there was a matter of fact-ness and a kind of modernity to it which is not something i had thought to find in a book written and released in the seventies and by a female author! the struggles of motherhood, especially being a single mother, the difficulties that come hand in hand with it, the idea of a mother being anything less than perfect, the idea of a mother experiencing irrational anger or even fleeting moments of hatred towards their child, the idea of a mother being so filled with the frustrations of navigating the murky waters of divorce while holding down a job and raising a child that they take out these frustrations in places they probably shouldn't is still such a taboo in a sense i feel and so rarely talked about or presented so plainly in literature or anywhere else that reading territory of light felt like a breath of fresh air in more ways than one and had i not checked the publication date i could have easily mistaken it for a far more recent and purposefully feminist release. such a quick read and such an interesting little gem of a book, i am glad to have discovered it and recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone who enjoys seemingly aimless slice of life but at the same time thought provoking stories, is interested in more grounded approaches to motherhood and womanhood and all the less glorious aspects of it or simply finds pleasure in good writing!
