This was a fascinating account of a day in the life of a nurse. I admire them so much. I could never do this. I was exhausted just reading about it.
Wow, this book was really good. A 12 hour shift on the oncology floor was fascinating. I recently spent four days in the hospital and thought the nurses where phenomenal. It's amazing all of the responsibility they have, decisions to make, energy spent and love of their job. This book is a great read.
This was an eye opener of a book. While I knew nurses were busy and overworked and overlooked, this really shows how important and under appreciated nurses are. I have spent a week in a hospital, and this book gave me a different look on that stay. This book is at times funny, sad, frustrating, and hopeful. Tavia Gilbert did a wonderful job narrating this book. I very much enjoyed this book.
A fantastic peek into the life of a nurse. Sad, poignant, sprinkled with anecdotes of life in the hospital. Triumphs. Disappointments. Told with heart and truth.
Interesting premise and I liked the insight into a nurse’s day. However I frequently became bored with the repetitive mundane details.
This book is well written, as you would expect from a former English professor, and authentic, as you would expect from someone working in the field she is writing about. Reading the details of her 12-hour shift deepened my respect for nurses. Anyone interested in the state of health care in the U.S. from a provider's point of view will find a lot of great information here.

Having recently been a hospital patient albeit for pinning a fractured ankle rather than something as serious as cancer I read this one with interest as it shows a whole other side to the medical/hospital equation that is usually glorified in TV series & books.
I particularly was impressed with her compassion & understanding & re-phrasing the encounters she had with an incredibly difficult and demanding patient.
