This was the best horror book I’ve ever read.

It was a terrifying tale about a couple that moves into a haunted house and the evil that permeates their lives.

It grabbed my attention and had splatterings of horror that went along at a great speed all the way along until near the end, when unspeakable horror really started chugging out in all directions.

What a great book and I highly recommend to any lover of the blood and gore, horror to the max stories.

The ending was a twist I didn’t see coming and I already miss the main character and her internal quandaries and strife.

This one will stay in my heart a while a a favorite standout!

A lot to unpack here. I liked the ambition, but I think the author tackled some big ideas (mental health, domestic violence) without sensitivity or any kind of subtlety. Horror can be beautiful for the metaphors and nuance. This literally hit you over the head with it.

I admire the people who take their time and read through all of Goodreads' Choice Awards options before casting their vote. It's a trend I recently discovered in some of the booktubers I follow.
Sadly, I do not have that strong a resolution. Wish I did.

I did, however, fell in love so badly with this book that as soon as I was done pondering about life after reading it I made a mad dash to the voting list and chose it for the horror category.
That's how good it was in my (heh) book.

I'm a self-proclaimed haunted house enjoyer. I try to find as many as I can and be as fair as I can when reading them.
I'm also a complete stick in the mud when it comes to the "humans are the real monsters!" trope, I loathe it with the same intensity of a child throwing a tantrum. For a hot second, this book tricked me into believing that would be the case, but it had more tricks up its spooky sleeve.

A perfect balance between real, mundane horror and things that go gorey in the night. This is the kind of story that satisfies everyone who reads it.
Straight into my favourites shelf.
