My heebies are officially jeebied 😱
I guess I won’t be sleeping tonight 🫣
THAT ENDING!?! I’m just sitting here with my jaw hanging open trying to form some coherent thoughts. This was amazing!!! Every time I thought I knew where it was going everything went off the rails instead. This has got to be the most intense ending to a book I’ve ever read. This is up there for sure as one of the best haunted house books I’ve ever read.

This book was quite the ride. I love horror as a metaphor and think there’s commentary here around agency, women’s stories and sanity that are all interesting, even if some aren’t fully fleshed out. Lots of gore, good twists and a satisfying (in my opinion) end. Definitely check the content warnings, but definitely a worthy addition to spooky season reading.

This was the best horror I've read in a while. There were very few slow parts in the middle. I liked that it was psychological too, I didn't expect that. Definitely recommend if you're looking for haunted house horror.

I loved how it showed the strength in surviving. And how it drew connections between the
abusive
relationship of Margaret and Kal and Margaret and the house.
I was scared for a bit when they were playing with the idea of "the schizophrenic is the killer again" trope but felt better when it differentiated it from the typical case saying it happened in only extreme circumstances. And I liked it even better when it was actually haunted.

And I have very mixed feelings about Katherine.

I really enjoyed this book. I thought it was a super interesting take on a haunted house. And I really thought it was interesting how the abuse tied in and contributed to Margaret’s reaction to the house. I see a lot of reviews say that it wasn't scary enough or that they were annoyed that Margaret is so casual about the hauntings. But I think Margaret’s response is what made it so interesting and engaging. Maybe it’s not the most terrifying (although the pranksters are creepy, and there are some gory descriptions here), but I still loved it. Possibly one of my favorite haunted house books I’ve read.
