this one’s a different kind of horror. scary at some parts but there’s some dark humor through out that softens it. there are a lot of ghosts in this one, so much so i forgot certain ones existed as the book went on. i liked this book for the most part, but it could have been shortened.

Attacking the haunted house genre from the perspective of an overly agreeable mom who just puts up with most of it is kind of hilarious.

I devoured this in two days.

I did notice 100% of adult men who died in the house did not get to come back as ghosts and did not get to have their injuries reversed at the end. I find that very interesting, but I did want an acknowledgement of that somewhere? Like we're literally watching all the children & adult women who died in the house heal & leave (if they want to) and then they just sit on the porch like... so Hal is dead. I'm down with it but I was like... is no one else seeing a pattern here hi hello.

Interesting addition on a haunted house genre. Definitely check the content warnings before reading (domestic violence, child death, and gore being very graphic).
Minor gripe about this book: the author almost only describes characters’ eyes as “wide,” so often that it was actually distracting.

I read 3/4ths and listened to the last 1/4th, and I would recommend listening to the audiobook- Kimberly Farr does a fantastic job.
