One sentence review: A wonderful haunted house story that shows us ghosts aren’t always the dead entities we think them as and the horrors can be in the every day lives we live.

I really enjoyed this! It reminded me a bit of A House with Good Bones. Similar levels of denial present in both protagonists, but beyond that, it was definitely a different sort of haunting…

Margaret is the best sort of Final Girl. Moral of the story? Don’t involve the cops.

This could have been so good. I tore through this book in two days, and maybe that is my fault for how annoyed I am after ending. The haunted house and the extended metaphor for familiar relationships was realistic, terrifying, and heartbreaking. But my suspension of belief cannot handle the motivations of Margaret and Katherine, why they were both so hellbent on the former not explaining about the house, and the latter looking for Hal even after the shoe drops about him.
