Mixed feelings about this one. It was a great vibe read, but in some regards it went on and on a bit much. The writing was excellent, but the plot went back and forth between charming/interesting and cumbersome/repetitive.

I really liked this! Can finally see why this is *the* Dark Academia novel, had me from the start and pretty much kept me right up till the end. The hype is valid!

A word to describe the book is decadence.
The story was disturbing and it had some pockets of humor.

I did enjoy the first half, I thought it was well written and the author did a really good job at immersing us into the books environment. But the last 200 pages felt dull and I was expecting more of what had been sprinkled in in the beginning. I feel like she was a bit too ambitious at first and couldn’t really make the ship sail and added useless elements towards the end to make it end into a clash but I didn’t buy into it. A bit disappointed tbh

I wanted to love this book, I really did. I kept waiting to be completely sucked in by it but that point never came.
Even the part about Henry like I didn’t really care? I was just sort of like oh he’s shot himself ok
I think I struggled with the long chapters and for a book of 600 odd pages, nothing really happened? And look, I LOVE a character driven story, they’re some of my favourite reads but something here just missed the mark for me. This review sounds like o hated it, I didn’t. I did enjoy it, just not in the way I hoped/wanted to.
