I found this read to be a little convoluted. Taking two pages to say what could be said in one is not my thing. If you’re into prose, I think you’ll really like this one. The story was good! The writing just wasn’t for me.

I wanted both more and less from this book. I think there was things they could have cut down on and things they could have expanded on and fleshed out more. I found the characters pretty interesting, but I also felt something lacking there, not sure what. I do think I'll read certain parts again, and I do think I'd read other books by the author. The best parts for me was just the ending with Grace finally getting better and her conversation with her dad had me tearing up on the train to work. The relationships between characters was also great to see, and I liked the ambiguous feelings between, Agnes, Ximena and Meera but I wanted more. I also wanted more between the dad and Grace. It felt like there aas so much more to be said between them. It would have even been great as an epilogue. Some of the arguments between Yuki and Grace didn't make sense to me and I think that was largely due to not really understanding Yuki I think. Why would you expect Grace to stay after 3 months? Why not be more patient and willing to give her more time? Why wasn't Yuki willing to move to Portland with Grace but expecting Grace to stay? The unevenness there bothered me and the fact they never even consider any other alternatives also bothered me. Maybe it would have been nice to understand why Yuki was so anchored to New York.
Morgan Rogers is a fantastic writer. The lyricism of the imagery she presents is spectacular. I just didn’t love the book itself. The level of existential crisis seems to me to be more befitting YA fiction than that for adults. Not for me.
I loved this one!!
So relatable. So realistic. And so important.
I think this should be a good read by so many people. The idea of feeling lost, and not wanting to let others down, is such a common feeling. I think most people experience this in one way or another, and the way it was written was so well done! This story had all kinds of love. Platonic, familial, and romantic. And they were all realistic and relatable!
There is so much I could say about this story that worked and was brilliant. Overall, I think it is a must read, and if you have ever felt lost or in a 'now what' phase, then you will be able to relate to the main character (and others) in many ways. I remember feeling this exact way after finishing high school, and then after college, and even some days now.
So very well done
