As someone that is not a big romance reader I quite enjoyed this book. The romance, an unplanned drunk marriage, was a main plot but not the only aspect of Grace Porter we follow. The story also focuses on her post PhD program getting a job in astronomy, her friendships, parental expectations, her own drive/rebellion, and all while navigating as a black lesbian. The prose was decent but middle to like final quarter were frustratingly stunted in terms of development and the mention of "lonely creature" and "loneliness" got annoying.

I absolutely loved this book. This was the first book I read when I decided I would try reading more books outside of the books assigned for in-school reading. I was recommended it by a friend for the sapphic romance and the diversity represented by this author. The imagery and the writing itself just left me star-struck. I'm very picky in the books that I choose and it is rare that I finish a book that I had chosen to read.

I found the main character to be insufferable. I understand what she was going through, but goodness girl.

Overall I liked the positive message, and the romantic leads had good chemistry. My main problems were the artificial dialogue, and I found the way the friendships were portrayed to be unbelievable
