I did really enjoy it, but I felt like I was reading it just to get over it/complete the series but otherwise it was really good. Was considering 3 stars but there were so many parts I was SQUEALING (as one does when they love the romance in a romantasy), and I loved Roma and Benedikt. I loved Marshall in book 1, but he was kinda getting on my nerves in this one. Also wish the second half focused more on the romance then it did, it focused more on the conflict between the communists and nationalists, which does make sense considering the historical context, but I was skimming a lot of that part looking for scenes between Roma and Juliette.
somehow, despite all odds, beautiful.
i could drone for ages about the bits and pieces i didn't like, the fact that i zoned off whilst reading more times than i can count, and the moments that made .y eyebrow raise. but i won't, because in the end, this book captured my heart.
a bit of it, anyway. (not the whole thing, as inconveniences annoy me.) i am very fond of roma montagov, and maybe even juliette. this book managed the impossible feat of making me like the forbidden lovers trope. i will choose to remember it for that.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5/5)
“Together or not at all, dorogaya” Roma whispered back.
no words will ever be enough to explain how much this book made me feel. there are not many times where the sequel is better than the first one, but i think this is an exception.
roma and juliette hold a very special place in my heart and i want to thank chloe gong’s beautiful writing for completely transporting me into their world. the plot was amazing, the characters and their development were very well done and the ending was everything that i could have ever asked for.
another thing about this book that i absolutely adored is the fact that there wasn’t a single boring moment in it: it had the perfect amount of plot twists and, once again, i have to praise gong’s writing because i think it’s the best part of the book.

It’s been so long since I attempted to read this and I just have no interest trying so I’m DNF-ing it.

Not a fan. I don't care for the original content od Romeo and Juliet and the introduction of gangsters is also not my thing. The monsters weren't fun and the politics felt sophmoric.
was better than the last, but not something i need to come back to again. i think what made me struggle with this was the audiobook narrator. she lacked the emotion that would have captivated me. there were times of true depth in this novel, but it didn’t really hit hard because the characters were honestly not well delved into. they lacked true reasoning for their actions, i found.
