The ending half of the book is so tense, so much happens and it gets so overwhelmingly sad. Since the book is a romeo and juliette retelling, I figured the main characters would die. But their death is so symbolic and so tragically beautiful. From the moment Juliette shot Tyler and his men, I was like omg it os getting strong now. I also like the number of plot twists in the book, some of them being rosalind being the white flower spy that infilitrated the scarlet gang, dimitri being her lover, the whole marshall seo thing! Even though I do not remember the first half of the book a lot, I breezed through the second half. I loved chapter 33 i think when juliette and roma are in the bunker occupied by marshall previously. AND THEY GET MARRIED. those two actually shaped history. I love them and how they love was so important to them. Juliette is such a bad ass honestly and they way she died is the way I would picture someone like juliette dying. In a heroic manner. The princess of Shanghai. I also enjoyed how Chloe Gong stayed true to the historical events, that made the book more interesting. The epilogue was also so sad because we read it from Alisa's pov, and now she is living with Celia who is Kathelin lang. Honestly, now I want to know more about rosalind, because what is going in her head. but also kathelin is such a lovable character!! all in all, i enjoyed the book so much and it gave me emotions and i cared about the characters so i gave it good rating. i like this more than the first book. The monsters are also interesting but majority of this book was politics and that was also really interesting. at least marshall and benedict are safe in moscow now :) tbh, tyler's death also made me sad a 2 seconds until her started speaking lol.

Ouch

I loved this book with my whole heart and cannot wait for the rest of the world to finally get to read it <3

This was undoubtedly more intense than the first book and I loved that it showcased and dissected the rot of corruption and the meaninglessness of the blood feud.
I love how author didn't just give us a resolution for Roma and Juliette towards the end but in the middle of the story so we could see/feel them FINALLY coming together.
Absolutely need a duology of Benedikt and Marshall now, too ✨

It reminds you of how senseless violence is. How dark the world is. How hopeless things can feel. Then it reminds you of the people worth fighting for.
