RTC but I love Ira and Evie's relationship so much, I highlighted half the book because I am obsessed with the way they are with each other.

My messy notes before I go to sleep:
- the mystery was fun, i like how we get individual cases tied together with a bigger danger/mystery. I am intrigued !
- I like how we don't get to know everything about all the characters right away. Details about Patrick's death are slowly being communicated, and same for Doyle's loss and past
- This ties back to my favourite part of this which is the relationship between Ira and Evie. I love that they're taking it slow, making sure they're both comfortable before moving forward. I love that they understand each other so well and know their boundaries and always do their best in their mental state to communicate and be there for the other. It's also incredibly satisfying for me to see a couple in fictional romance work through emotional distress and trauma in a non sexual manner? They were "more than friends less than lovers" for weeks after evie moved in with Ira following his injury and divorce proceedings, but never jumped into a relationship. They've kissed a couple times before realising the depths of their feelings, after what they get together. They talk about their expectations and how they see each other and more. And they haven't had sex yet. I just really like how they are to each other, how grateful they are and how their pain resonates and they're two people who were so alone and they've finally found each other. I am obsessed
- I am curious about how the topic of addiction will be handled in book 3, as Ira a recovering alcoholic has to be exposed to Evie's antidepressant reliance. I just want them both to be ok or ill off myself atp
- Ira's love language being touch, and Evie's being remembrance and them speaking the other's language and Evie realising he hasn't felt happiness that was not a byproduct of reliving happy memories in so long until Ira... Ira being so whipped for his smart gentle pretty boyfriend and both of them thinking they aren't good enough for the other when they mean everything to each other????? just soulmates being soulmates.
- Still don't love the past cheating but Noah's presence is pretty minimal here he is in like 2 scenes, and still an asshole. I don't get why he is so villainized to the point of caricature. Juxtaposed to Ira and Larkin, he doesn't feel like a real character and while it's supposed to enhance the fact that Ira is perfect for Evie, I think Ira is perfect enough that he didn't need this weirdo ex husband character to prove that.
- I love Neil and Baxter so much, read or skimmed over the ENTIRE Snow & Winter series to get every crumb of Neil, and I am so excited for his book! Baxter is sassier than I expected and I absolutely love him, love his banter with Neil and that they're friends I will die if I don't have their book this year (but then Broadway Butcher is out in May and the author said she wants to wrap up this series with a final 5th volume this year so maybe no Neil spin off in 2024... hopefully 2025??? Pretty please????)

This was an interesting, if creepy, case. I like that the solution wasn't obvious, though I did have to question some of the clues they found. Like,
how did the DB have an obit before he was even identified? That didn't make much sense.
But other than that, there were lots of twists and turns. This focused on a cold case that was brought up in the first book, which led to a larger case being uncovered.

I'm also really enjoying how the relationship development is going. Two books in, and they're just now going on a date and have only kissed a handful of times. They're actually learning things about each other, and the way they relate to each other is so rewarding to watch. Of course, there's still Noah, who Larkin has started
divorce proceedings with and who is still an obnoxious tool
but maybe there will be some improvement on that front too. Or maybe not. It could go either way, really.

The larger case linking these first three books (maybe four?) is whoever is sending Larkin notes, taunting him. Whoever it is obviously has inside information, and so has to be a cop or working for law enforcement in some capacity. I have some suspicions, but they also all seem too obvious in different ways. But I hope this doesn't go on too long because it'll start to stretch believability if he/she isn't caught soon.

Oh my god.

So many thoughts for this book and I’m going to be so honest, it was better from the previous one.

We get to see more of Larkin’s backstory and Doyle too which was represented by his studio setting. They definitely are getting healthier and the communication was so well done. (We give Larkin an A for effort)

The tension scene including Noah was so so GOOD. Literally was ready to beat the shit out of that man and Doyle just being there for Larkin made me believe in love again tbh

The case this time was so much more intriguing and got me so into the case besides doyle and larkin

And can i just say the ending scene when doyle was about to get run over I HAVE NEVER SCREAMED SO HARD IN MY LIFE. I had to immediately call my gf afterwards (who was reading the book with me) and cried about it.

In conclusion this book was just phenomenal and i’ve never finished something so fast in my life

Last thing, MOVE MEGAN IS MY TURN TO HUG DOYLE.
