I will go into this review saying that this was not a bad book at ALL, just likely not for me. This book is much more about the human condition and coping with loss of love than it is a romance, by far. It is messy and raw and very insightful. I just truly could not relate to the main character and--perhaps--the author as well, as they both seem to have a very dark, pessimistic view of love, lust, and what being human truly means.

 i’m not squeamish when it comes to unsettling books usually. that said, this was really uncomfortable in my opinion. well written, but the characters interactions with herself and others were disgusting. i liked the end. maybe i’m slow but i didn’t really expect it.

There were some really interesting themes being explored here but between the prose falling a little flat and the characters being fundamentally unlikeable I was irritated far more often than I was moved.

Gah, this was a weird one and I don’t know if I can definitively say I liked it or disliked it. The main character was so irritating and frustrating and awful and at the same time, there were times I felt for her and wished she get the help she clearly needed- there were little glimmers of redeemable qualities to her. Hmmm.

If you have ever used s*x as a coping mechanism, you’ll probably like this book.  If you have lived with an existential nothingness for so long you can’t remember otherwise, you’ll probably like this book.  

Told as if you’re in her mind, her diary, her maladaptive daydream audience, you watch her go from crazy to insane.  Past one rock bottom to the very deep of messed up.  And.. on the last few pages, you find some sense of hope for us broken people.

Check the trigger warnings.  The animal abuse is gut wrenching.
