A really solid, fun space opera, in which we follow the crew of a ship, The Road to the Goberlings, that seems to hold the key to the find of the galaxy. But then none of those on board are quite what they seem. Engineer Josune has way more bio-tech installed than her CV should allow, modder Nika is travelling under a fake name, and the Captain Roystan knows stuff a cargo shipper has no reason to know. I really enjoyed this - it built up it’s web of lies just enough to feel “true” without holding back the truth from the reader long enough for it to ever be frustrating or eyerolling (although Snow’s blindness was occasionally ridiculous), what action scenes are included were pretty fun, and the characters are fantastic, a lot of the book revolves around the relationships aboard the ship and I liked them all, Nika and Josune’s friendship especially.
This was a fairly good space opera with some really weird issues. First of all, there was too much fighting for me by FAR. I prefer a little less...action.
Secondly, this book is oddly fatphobic. It's not...overt, I guess? But it's definitely there.
Honestly, I'd go elsewhere as my first choice. But I'm also not totally opposed to reading the next book, so....
