OMG! I loved this book and found myself up waaaay late almost every night because I couldn't put it down. The way Acevedo uses language and the phrases she comes up with are just so beautiful. I kept highlighting my favorites so I could remember to write them down later. WOW!

I really liked this one and think about it a lot in the year plus since reading it. It was a peek into a different kind of life experience than I've had. Also the audiobook narrator did awesome!

With the Fire on High is a story about a teenage mom in her senior year of high school, doing the best she can juggling everything from work, school, planning her future of becoming a successful chef, while being a mother all at the same time.
I really enjoyed this heartwarming read. The author did such a wonderful job of showing us what it means to be a young single parent. I loved Emoni’s character and just how strong and passionate she is in life. I was really rooting for her and wanted everything to go well for her.
Following Emoni’s story and seeing her grow and make all those tough decisions was just one part of this book. I also liked the family relationships here, the romance between the characters, showing the importance of culture and of course all the food talk plus the recipes in here got me so hungry while reading this.

I enjoyed getting lost in this little, fast story.
The writing wasn't brilliant, there were about 5 times where she let go of the breath she didn't realise she was holding...etc etc. The problems were resolved a bit quickly and convenience was the second main character, but it was easy, a good one to get out of a reading slump.
I liked how vivid the food felt when she was cooking.

I absolutely loved this book! I'm from Philly & I am so proud that the book takes place in my city!! I got a little weepy at Chapter 70 too! I listened to it on audiobook (on the Scribd app).

Expectations exceeded! I wanted this book for awhile im a new stan of Elizabeth Acevedo and her audiobooks narration has my heart!
