The Lurking Fear

H.P. Lovecraft

3.55 AVERAGE

Loveable characters: No

A unique plot, but to me, the way it was written made it seem less scary than it could have been.

My dad recommended me read this, as i am now actually taking the time to read into H.P. Lovecraft's stories. It was eh, I had very high expectations, but my mind didn't strike up anything imaginably horrible about the creatures.

Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

Obviously the concept of Lovecraftian horror is full of potential and can be found all over modern pop culture, and while some of these stories had interesting concepts, others were downright boring. The glaring racism doesn't do it any favours either.

the shadow over innsmouth was better lol
dark mysterious

Another nasty one. In spite of what I said earlier about my appreciation for Lovecraft's corrupt protagonists, it was rather nice to run across one who wasn't himself revolting. Unfortunately, I thought this was going to throw some light on the terrible beyond (when he mentioned that he had finally found one of the horrors we are normally protected from by our limited senses), but then it turned into
another encounter with inbred white apes
. Lovecraft found the idea of devolution hideous, let me tell you.
