I enjoy the Hannah Swensen cozy mysteries, but this one wasn't my favorite - it took until over half of the book for someone to get murdered, and I think I enjoy Hannah's train of thought as she "snoops" (aka, not investigates ha!) and tries to solve the murder. These aren't super thought provoking books, but they're the definition of "feel good" easy mystery reads - my goal is to get through a large chunk of Fluke's series for 2022!

This book was a little slower than others in the series. The murder doesnt take place until page 222 so the first half of the book is just back story. I also found this one to be pretty predictable. I was able to predict who the murderer was with once it happened. There was no real twist (besides the finding of bones-which didnt really tie into the story at all).
Overall it was not bad but I feel that other books in the series are better.

Good but no one dies for 200 pages

This was a very disappointing book. I knew that the ending of the last book was mostly a drama-pulling ploy. Hannah's two-men relationship/ love triangle is the most interesting and enticing part of the book series. I had little faith that Fluke would actually have her choose someone so easily. Still, it was a little flippant that she didn't take the proposals seriously. Also, the murder was no mystery. SUPER easy!
Spoiler I mean, he was the last person to handle the gun. He was really, the biggest suspect for who could have made the switch. The way they caught him too? Totally wouldn't fly in court- even if Mike's a law enforcement officer. "Gotcha!"?? Oh, brother...

It's a cop-out, but the Hannah Swensen mysteries really only need a lump review:

For some reason, I keep reading these when they show up at the library. I don't know why. Do I enjoy them? Sure. They're trashy murder mysteries that don't always make sense. I can huff at them in irritation when the main character does, or thinks, something especially stupid. They involve recipes.

Actually, the books are formulaic enough that they themselves were written by recipe.

Yes, I will keep reading them, assuming that new books keep showing up on the library shelves. I will enjoy them, and I will probably root for Norman as Suitor of the Day. But no, I will not be spending any money on these books.

The big screens have come to Lake Eden and along with it, another murder!

I enjoyed the different pace this book took with Hannah, Mike and Norman. It was refreshing and I liked that it was changed up a bit! Also we met Ross, a new character that makes it seem like Mike and Norman have some competition. I like Ross a lot though.

I also enjoyed having Michelle in this book as well. I love the youngest Swensen sister and the fact that she seems to be kept in the loop even though she's mostly away at college.

I look forward to reading the next one to see what mystery Hannah and the Lake Eden community will solve.
