While the story is good, I would not recommend this to anyone with sexual trauma or an abusive person in their life as this book will likely be very upsetting. Definitely better than the first book. There is actual plot and the characters around our Protag are actual kinda nice and I enjoyed reading about them.

The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because the beginning and one scene in the middle were a little slow to read. Other than that… this book was amazing!! Definitely very dark and emotion for the majority of it (literally cried so many times), but also deeply romantic, adventurous, and redeeming. Love love love. Plus, there’s some unexpected twists which are always awesome imo.

One of my favorites in the series. Deals with trauma and has great character development with a loveable love story. It’s hard to put down even after reading it a few times it’s that good!

5 ⭐️

Every time I read this book I fall more in love with it, which surprises me considering this book is like home to me. SJM has a way of writing found family and a way of writing about dealing with grief and depression that never fails to draw every emotion out of me. 

I still love Feysand with every fibre of my being and this passage still gets me every time:

"But I forgot to tell him," I said quietly, opening the door, "that the villain is usually the person who locks up the maiden and throws away the key.”
"Oh?”
I shrugged. "He was the one who let me out."

This book also gets me really excited for Nesta’s journey too. Another favourite SJM lady of mine.
