I!! GET!! THE!! HYPE!!!!!!

The first book really had me thinking I was going to be the only person to hate this series. But this one!! This one changed it all for me.

All the emotions. The pining! The tension! The heartbreak! I devoured it all.

The ending had my heart racing. Feyre is such a strong and selfless character. And my bat boys! Such golden retrievers.

Really not a lot to say except I GET IT NOW!!! The hype? Worth it.

I absolutely loved this book. The world building and politics of it were super well explained and the slow burn of the story kept me on my toes.

I liked that Feyre got to be more independent and really got to explore the different courts and areas. I enjoyed getting to learn about something other than spring court. And I very much enjoyed her relationship form with Rhys. It felt so much more genuine than her relationship with Tamlin in ACOTAR.

The world building for Velaris was beautifully written and I enjoyed the different characters that were brought in like Cassian, Azriel, and and Mor. I’m looking to find out more about Amren in the next book since I feel she still has a lot of secrets.

I’m very glad she became mates with Rhysand. I didn’t get the Tamlin appeal after the 1st book and I’m glad that this definitely made me dislike him even more. The ending where they conspired with the king caught me by surprise and my dislike for him came all over again. Tragic that she has to go back to spring court with that dishrag of a man just to help save her family and friends.>

This book was really good. I’ve never been so enthralled in a romance potential character as Rhys. I love the way everything was addressed romantically but there was also a lot of action plot.

Favorite quotes:

“To the people who look at the stars and wish, Rhys."
Rhys clinked his glass against mine. “To the stars who listen— and the dreams that are answered.”

“He thinks he'll be remembered as the villain in the story. But I forgot to tell him that the villain is usually the person who locks up the maiden and throws away the key. He was the one who let me out.”

“When you spend so long trapped in darkness, Lucien, you find that the darkness begins to stare back.”

“I was not a pet, not a doll, not an animal.
I was a survivor, and I was strong.
I would not be weak, or helpless again
I would not, could not be broken. Tamed.”

“I am broken and healing, but every piece of my heart belong to you.”

“There are different kinds of darkness,” Rhys said. I kept my eyes shut. “There is the darkness that frightens, the darkness that soothes, the darkness that is restful.” I pictured each. “There is the darkness of lovers, and the darkness of assassins. It becomes what the bearer wishes it to be, needs it to be. It is not wholly bad or good.”

“No one was my master— but I might be master of everything, if I wished. If I dared.”

“And so Tamlin unwittingly led the High Lady of the Night Court into the heart of his territory.”

“My friend through many dangers. My lover who had healed my broken and weary soul. My mate who had waited for me against all hope, despite all odds.”

“I was burning through books every day - stories about people and places I'd never heard of. They were perhaps the only thing that kept me from teetering into utter despair.”

“He locked you up because he knew—the bastard knew what a treasure you are. That you are worth more than land or gold or jewels. He knew, and wanted to keep you all to himself.”

“I was not prey any longer, I decided as I eased up to that door.
And I was not a mouse.
I was a wolf.”

“He had stayed. And fought for me.
Week after week, he’d fought for me, even when I had no reaction , even when I had barely been able to speak or bring myself to care if I lived or died or ate or starved. I couldn’t leave him to his own dark thoughts, his own guilt. He’d shouldered them alone long enough.”

“”Hello, Feyre darling,” he purred.“
