This took an unexpected turn, I didn’t expect to love this book this much, considering I hated ACOTAR. This was definitely a 180 (degree) from the first book.
I started reading this and I could not to stop, I literally devoured a 200+ pages in one sitting, I hadn’t eaten breakfast yet. One of my many complaints on the first book was that it was so bland and flat, the plot and the writing, but with ACOMAF everything changed. It made me remember why I fell in love with Throne of Glass in the first place and it reminds me of the wonderful writing and the intricate plot of SJM.
So yes, ACOMAF is everything I wished for and beyond.
In here, we meet with some new interesting characters that I adore so much. I do wish that we have multiple POV though, it would’ve been so so good. Not necessary Rhys' but other characters, perhaps Amren or Azriel (this male intrigued me). I love that this has a founding family trope, which is the trope that I always look in a book, it warms my heart, the trope, and as always SJM delivers. We’ve got the endless banter the heartfelt conversation, the emotional deep feelings to each other, parfait *chef’s kiss. They are not characters, they’re my friends.
Let’s talk about the plot. It’s definitely more treacherous than the first book, and has greater impact to the characters and their world. It never bores me, from page one until the very last cliffhanger that literally made me scream uncontrollably and shatter my heart, thank god I was home alone otherwise my family would be very very concern. Kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time, and time flew by. Honestly if I was unhinged I could finish a 656 pages book in one day, but 'tis something to be savoured rather than devoured, hence I postponed on finishing this yesterday, truthfully am afraid of book hangover.
And I just love how SJM leaves crumbs which at that time it doesn’t feel important until they are. And she is a master of foreshadowing, I reread that part from acotar when I reached chapter 54 (if you know what I mean), that’s a mastermind behaviour if I do say so myself.
5/5 loved this book.
