The original “Would you still love me if I was a worm?”

Read as part of a book club.

Literally from the perspective of a human turned into a bug. Peculiar, but not a bad read.

i really just want to know what possesses someone to write something like this

My mother currently has stage 4 Parkinson's, and my father, sister, and myself are her primary caregivers. This book reflects a lot of the same feelings I have experienced over the course of her illness.

She is not totally mentally present; she does not believe she is sick even though she can barely walk or stand. Her room smells very strongly of urine, since she is totally incontinent, and it is difficult to be there for very long. She is my mother, but she is also now something else. She will not get better, and she does not understand why this is happening to her. Every day there is less and less in common between her and the person she was five years ago.

It does feel like we are caring for a creature who lives in our house where my mother used to live. I can recognize how sad this is for her as well, and at the same time everyone in our house is being suffocated by the dark cloud that has come with her illness. It is hard not to feel resentful, and I know she resents us as well for not being able to help her. But what else is there to do? All options leave at least one party shunned and cut off from society.

Knowing how he died from TB makes the whole thing so much more tragic. He kinda got bugged in the end.
