I dragged my feet before reading this one next in the series. Daisy is a hard pill to swallow, even though it's been shown *why* she acts the way she does. And this book goes into more detail of her psyche. She was groomed as a teenager to be the perfect arm piece of a political leader, and that mindset is hard to rewrite. Also, I appreciated as well as cringed with her putting on performative smiles and also allowing herself to be so vulnerable despite being humiliated by both her scars, as well as O'jek. But it also showed strength.

I didn’t like Daisy from previous books so it took a bit to get through this. She’s selfish and while she does eventually start contributing to life on a primitive planet, she’s still selfish by the end of the book and I still don’t like her.

I worship at the altar of Ruby Dixon. I will read anything this woman writes. IPB and the connected worlds are comfort reads.

Daisy is tired of waiting for her turn, and as a perpetually single girly myself I can totally relate. So she decides to take matters into her own hands. I love her determination and her growth from thinking she has to be an ornament to realizing that she has value outside of her looks. O’jek is hopelessly in love, just like I like my alien men to be. I appreciated that their first time was awkward and their determination to learn together, and I love how their story played out.
