Meh. This was an OK read for me, but not super special. Not my least favorite couple, but not one of the better ones either.
Daisy, who got dropped off at Not-Hoth several books ago, has been desperately waiting for resonance and a baby. Since things aren't progressing for her, she decides to ask O'jek if he would like to be her mate and they can ask Veronica to try and turn on their khuis instead of waiting for resonance.
Honestly, I feel like Daisy's character has kind of been done dirty as the series has progressed. When she first arrived, she seemed to me more like a lady of guile and wit. The way she was introduced, I believed she had made the most of her cleverness to convince her previous "owner" to make her a companion and then continued to use her abilities to manipulate to move on to Not-Hoth. But as we learn more about her, we learn that she wasn't really even friendly with her last owner, and every book since she was introduced, she gets a little more pathetic and wimpy. It's a shame. I think it would be nice to have had a stronger character in the series that knew what she wanted and wasn't afraid to step on toes to get it.
O'jek ended up being disappointing, too. The way he dropped Daisy because he was "scared"...

He ended up being my least favorite MMC in the series. He really but Daisy through the wringer emotionally.

Oh. My. Goodness. Ruby did it. She did it.
And that is all I will say about THAT.
After waiting so “long” for Daisy’s story- it did not disappoint. I loved her attitude in this. We’ve spent book after book seeing her tribe be so annoyed with her and yet it never occurred to me *why* she may be acting the way she was. Shame on me. We get so much backstory and learning the why she is the way that she is and it just made so much sense. Seeing O’Jek and his anxieties and watching him be afraid to just take what he wanted. His relationship with his clan. I loved it. I loved the absolute journey we are taken on in their relationship. It’s a true winding journey and it’s not easy and it’s steamy and romantic and there are surprises along the way and it is so much fun. The main characters at the end of Daisy’s Distraction are not the same people that are at the beginning of the book and it was an absolute delight.
I also really enjoyed seeing the relationships throughout the tribe. It warmed my heart to see old friends and new ones and getting peeks into some of our un-mated friends friendships and personalities. The letters. The joking. The unexpected friendships… which leads me to this final point:
OH MY GOSH- I cannot wait to see WHAT HAPPENS NEXT.

This book feels like a love letter to those singles who are tired of being told their time will come and there are plenty of fish in the sea. It’s for those individuals who are ready to take matters into their own hands. That’s what Daisy does after all — first with her decision to be dropped on Not Hoth, and then with her decision to stop waiting for resonance.
While reading this story, it felt really weird to like O’jek. Shadow Cat clan have not been the most likable crew on the Ice Home beach. However, it turns out O’jek is a really decent guy and a great friend to Daisy. I love it when an author can make readers fall for previously un-likable characters. In this case, Ruby Dixon builds that magic with not one character but two.

I’ve been waiting and waiting for this book. I have also been re reading some of my faves from earlier in the series. I really did like this story, it was tense!
