DID NOT FINISH

I'm not going to give this one a rating. I definitely did not hate it and liked it to a fair extent but it was becoming a tedious read. I read a few other books in between and set this one aside to find that I really didn't want to go back to it. The whole concept is great and there's a lot of detail but it seems to bog down the narrative especially the side notes at the bottom of the page. I think it's a good read just not the right book for me.
dark funny medium-paced

I love to see a baddie assassin and Mia’s character is just dope. The plot twists were well done and all the subtle clues throughout tasteful. The footnotes could get a little annoying at times but definitely added to the world building and I just had a good time reading this. Confused how the Lord of Blades could just go out like that I wish we learned more about the darkin powers but I’m assuming we will throughout the trilogy.

as much as the writing style annoyed the fuck out of me, I will read the next book as the story was pretty cool

I cant describe how much I enjoyed this. It's like when Arya stark went to learn how to be a faceless man, with all the teenage angst, treachery, murder, and magick that came with it. So enthralling, so fast paced and one of the best reads this year yet. Bravo. On to the next one.

The book is narrated in two ways, one from the protagonist’s POV, while other sections are the author directly talking to you - and it’s done so beautifully
