I thought the premise was kind of interesting, but it didn’t follow through the way I had expected it to. The ending came too quickly. I wish there was more scenes of the end (scenes where Haemon and Antigone actually interact to sell the whole “being-lovers” thing/ the scene where they died being played out instead of just being recited by the Messanger) The queen only existed to die, which I thought was lame and pointless. It would have added character for her to have died before the story to add more detail to explain his anger at Haemon defending a woman (as he no longer had a wife to love the way Haemon loved his bride). I thought that since the play is literally titled Antigone, she would be more of a focus than she ultimately was, and I also thought that the conflict between her and her sister would play a larger role than it did. I’m beginning to wonder if that’s just a problem with the nature of plays— because they are expected to be short, they don’t have time to bring in a lot of plot threads and weave them through the story, so they ultimately end up being very minor in comparison to what would feel more fulfilling. Despite the critique, I didn’t hate the play, finding it alright. 3 stars.

i loved this. like actually. the plot is so interesting and i got that satisfying feeling from it. the characters are so layered, i love thinking about them and their actions. it was very interesting, i would definitely reread it for fun
