In my continuing effort to try to read some middle grade/older elementary books each year in order to better offer reading suggestions to that age crowd, I finally succumbed to pressure to read Bone. It was just as cute, fun, adventurous, and intriguing as it had been promised. I will be sure to share with many who enter my library’s doors.
But (you could feel that coming … right?), I did not love this enough to consume all 9 volumes and the prequel. My TBR list is vast and the TBR pile quite imposing. I have to get back in the habit of “it is okay to read only the first one so you are familiar with it.” By all means, share this book with your younger adventurerers! I’m just not going to devote the time to make sure they make it back across the valley!

3.5 or 3.75 stars (I rounded up this time because I felt pretty compelled to keep reading.). I liked this a lot! I picked it up (along with book 2 and 3) at a book sale randomly and didn't know anything about it. I was pleasantly surprised. I thought the story was well-done and the cast of characters were charming. I am looking forward to reading the next one!

What a start! Love the little forest creatures! A great balance between how much of the world is introduced and how much weirdness they still leave unexplained.

Cute but a little hard to follow. There was a lot of "absolutes" that I needed explained especially for a first volume.

What a masterpiece. The scope of the Matter of Britain is just so epic, so full of tragedy and love, and T.H. White gives it more meaning than almost any other author who's tackled it. Plus it has humor and adventure and authorial asides! If you haven't read this since childhood, pick it up and read it again. It's worth it.

How could anything so popular turn out to be NOT overrated? Hilarious! Smart! Awesome!

Bone is light and fun, with a few dark undertones. The artwork is great, with different characters drawn in fairly diverse ways. Overall, it's a quick, enjoyable read.

Reread: straight up did not remember Thorn looking like that. Every other character design seems much stronger
